That was that. An honest and direct family man

Perhaps the wisest is Mark Warner, the former governor of Virginia, who, until recently, was the contender best positioned to topple Hillary. That distinction now belongs to Mr Obama, who has not yet faced serious adversity in his short and remarkably blessed career, but who eloquently bemoans the “24-hour slash and burn” culture of American politics.

After much consideration, Mr Warner decided that he did not want to put his “real life”, or that of his family, on hold. That was that. An honest and direct family man, Mr Warner exhibited all the attributes most prized by America’s voters.
